Fractal Images
When I am working as a landscape photographer, I am selecting some tiny part of the world to show, and waiting for the right lighting to convey the mood and feelings that I associate with the place and the moment.
Fractal images are generated in the computer. There are multiple equations, each of which can be adjusted in multiple ways to interact with each other. The machine does this behind the scenes, and generates starting points for images. The result is a "world" as large and complex as the real world. Just like a landscape, it is then up to the artist to select one tiny part from the infinite possibilities to make a picture, and then refine the colours and shapes - once again to express mood and relate the abstract in some way to reality.
